The old pool's been on the list for a while. Not bad enough to fill in, not good enough to swim in. Most people haven't given up on it, it's just easier to keep pushing it down the list.
Most concrete pools built in the 1970s and 80s still have a sound shell, even once the interior surface has failed. North East Pool Renovations, Mansfield, resurfaces the interior rather than rebuilding the structure, which is usually the more practical option for pools of this age.
Most of the time it's not the disaster it looks like, a couple of weeks' work, not a demolition. And it's the pool the grandkids actually get in, not the one everyone avoids.

We're a third generation family business, rendering and renovating concrete pools across Victoria since the 1970s. John learned the trade from his father and grandfather, and we still do things the way they taught us, straight answers, no corners cut, and a job finished properly.

What WE DO
Pool renovation and resurfacing, done properly
Pool renovations
A full rebuild of an ageing pool. New interior finish, new tiling, new coping, and any structural repairs the pool needs before it goes back in the water.
Pool resurfacing
The interior surface stripped and refinished in SkyeStone or SkyeGlass. Best for pools that are structurally sound but have gone rough, patchy or stained.
Pool repairs
Leak detection, crack repair and structural work on concrete pools. Fixed before it turns into a much larger bill.
Pool coping & tiling
New coping stone around the pool edge, laid to sit flush and safe underfoot, and chosen to suit the paving and house it sits next to.
Plumbing and equipment
New pumps, filters, chlorinators and pipework. Older systems replaced with equipment that costs less to run.
Rust removal & cleaning
Rust stains, calcium build-up and grime are often the first sign a pool's due for a proper resurface, so we'll tell you if a clean's enough or if it's time to renovate.

A pool that keeps losing water after a repair often has more than one cause, or the wrong one was found first. North East Pool Renovations, Mansfield, diagnoses leaks across North East Victoria before recommending a repair or a full resurface.
Still losing water.
Often more than one cause. If it's the shell, we'll say so rather than patch around it.
Render coming away or rust showing through.
Could be corrosion in the steel underneath and worth a proper inspection, before it's patched over.
Paint faded or gone chalky.
The surface has had its life. Resurfacing fixes it without touching the structure.

Ask what's included, finish, coping, structural work, and get it in writing. A fair quote holds once the job starts.
It depends on the size of the pool and how much work it needs. The only way to get an accurate figure is to have someone look at it in person.
Resurfacing replaces the interior surface only. A full renovation covers coping, tiling and any structural repairs too. A site visit tells you which one you need.
Usually the steel reinforcement inside the concrete shell has started corroding. As it expands, it cracks the render and pushes tiles loose, which is why re-gluing tiles rarely fixes it for good.
